January 10: Red Solo Cup

There are some days when I get into a depressed funk and I have no energy, will, or desire to do anything except binge watch shows on Hulu/Netflix. Yesterday was not one of those days, and I feel like I should start to celebrate the seemingly simple accomplishments of doing things like laundry, vacuuming, dishes, and preparing a meal for my friends. Every time I find myself in these dips of despair, it becomes difficult to get things done. So even though they are just "chores", I'm proud of myself for getting them done, and I am trying to find delight in that.

It was also delightful to see a recent project of mine completed. I sometimes tend to be the type of person who starts a project but doesn't always see it through to completion. This particularly (nerdy) project was creating something called a "cube" for drafting in Magic the Gathering. Long story short-- I looked through thousands of Magic cards in what we call our "community collection" (donated to us by a ton of our Magic loving friends), to select a particular set of 480 cards within very specific parameters. Since I'm unemployed, I've had plenty of time to complete this, and it took a little over a week. It was great to have a project with a very specific conclusive result- 480 cards. Once completed, I invited some friends over from my Magic quarantine pod to play test it yesterday, and I think it went well. People seemed to enjoy it (my deck was AWESOME), and I think it will be a nice addition to our Magic-al possibilities.

But the most delightful moment of the day happen late in the evening. My husband and I were heading upstairs to go to bed. I had a large basket of (clean!) laundry, a cup of water, my phone and kindle, and a gallon of paint (to continue painting our bedroom tomorrow). I looked up at him and asked, "hey can you bring my laundry upstairs?" He then dropped the one thing he was going to carry upstairs, an empty red solo cup to use in the greenhouse room upstairs, and laughingly said, "But I was gonna carry this cup upstairs!" Maybe I was just extremely tired after a long day, but it felt like the funniest thing he had ever said (even though about 12 hours earlier he also delighted me with a fun mashup of the phrase Before and After.... "beafter"... pronounced beef-ter, after I mentioned that a portmanteau is like the "OG" Before and After [if you have no clue what I am talking about, refer to some of my earlier posts about portmanteaus and Before and Afters :)]) I laughed and laughed and laughed, and he laughed and laughed and laughed, and it was a great ending to a great day. (and yes, he did carry my laundry upstairs 👍).

With delight,

♥Jamie
